Like many food banks across the province of Alberta, the St. Albert Food Bank is facing a high demand for food hampers ahead of the holiday season.
Suzan Krecsy, executive director of the St. Albert Food Bank spoke with 89.3 The Raven, saying that they have seen a significant increase in demand for food hampers, with December seeing over a thousand hampers distributed, adding that the increase is something they can handle with the support from the community.

Krecsy goes on to say that with the demand of food hampers, they expect to feed over two thousand people a month with a goal to distribute 500 holiday hampers to the families in St. Albert.

Krecsy speaks on their recent partnership with the Salvation Army to create a program called ‘Out of the Cold’ to support the houseless community in St. Albert to have a place to stay and to be provided warm clothing and meals to keep out of the extreme weather.

Krecsy says that the reception she’s received from past hamper recipients is not only a thank you, but a way to help get many through tough times, adding that it’s proof that you may not have to depend on a food bank and that their is a way out.
