PRACTICES BEGIN FOR BROWNS GAME WITH A NUMBER OF VETS RESTING

The Steelers opened practice for Sunday’s game with eight guys given the day off for rest and five more listed as limited on the mandatory injury report.

The limited players included Alex Highsmith, who is back from his injured ankle and says he’s ready to play, Calvin Austin III, who is in concussion protocol, and two players on injured reserve…Corey Trice and Montavius Adams.  Linebacker TJ Watt was not listed on the injury report but was limited.

Defensive captain Cam Heyward did not practice.  He says the Steelers know the Browns well, having lost to them 24-19 two weeks ago, and they just have to play better this week than they played in Cleveland in the first meeting.

Alex Highsmith says the Steelers know the task ahead.

Joey Porter Jr. was flagged six times in Sunday’s game, twice on one play, three times for pass interference, but he says he can’t change his style of play and be an effective NFL cornerback.

The Steelers have waived running back Jonathan Ward from the active roster.  The open slot could be filled by cornerback Corey Trice, who must be activated by today or remain on injured reserve for the rest of the season.  He’s been out since Week 3 with a hamstring injury.
