The annual First Nations Leading the Way Gathering is underway at Edmonton Convention Centre from November 26-28 where First Nations from across Canada will gather and learn in moving beyond the Indian Act through First Nations led initiatives.
The event will include insightful panel discussions, stories of success and practical innovations, breakout sessions, and an indigenous tradeshow to create an opportunity to network with key influencers from First Nations on finances.
Harold Calla, executive director of the First Nations Financial Management Board spoke with CFWE, saying it’s a gratifying feeling for those involved in putting together the initiatives which allows more clients to support their interests in pursing things that will improve their communities.
Calla adds that their is a growth of economic opportunities within First Nations Communities in Canada, with ‘Leading the Way’ being a thought leadership group of bouncing ideas and concepts that will lead many First Nations communities on a direction to the new year on engaging provincial and Federal Governments on issues faced in many First Nation communities.
Calla says he is hopes attendees experience a sense of hope, and a sense of understanding of collective knowledge from many visiting First Nations communities is a step towards a brighter future.
