Niagara River Lions Head Coach and General Manager Vic Raso has been named the St. Catharines Sportsperson of the year.
Raso, who coached the River Lions to a first place finish and their first CEBL Championship in 2024, has coached the River Lions since 2019.
He says the community around Thorold, where the players live during the season, is a blast.
In addition to coaching the River Lions, Raso also runs the basketball program at Ridley College in St. Catharines.
He says that is rewarding in different ways than coaching the pros, as he gets to help mold those athletes into great people.
Former winners of the award include Pat Sullivan, Tyler Bielby and Paul Coates.
